Shelby Franklin Norton, 78, of Rockville died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 in Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center at Indianapolis.

He was born Oct. 7, 1933 to Mitchell and Clearcy (Sowder) Norton at Mt. Vernon, Ky.

He was a graduate of Ladoga High School.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Norton had a dairy farm at Darlington and he was a timber buyer and owned Norton's Logging.

He attended Raney's Country Chapel and was a member of the American Legion at Darlington.

He first married Betty Bair in 1952. They divorced. He then married Karen Busenbark Baker on Dec. 31, 1985 at Ladoga. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Susan (Jack) Query of Marshall and Tina (Mark) McDaniel of Rockville; son Bruce (Patty) Norton of Rockville; step-daughter Debra (David) Combs of Rockville; two sisters, Agnus Bullock of Ladoga and Winnie C. Bullock of Kentucky; brother Arvil Norton of Roachdale;

10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister Lois Witt, brother William Norton and stepson Rick Baker.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Machledt Servies Funeral Home, Waveland, with Brother Don Perry officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill North Cemetery, Crawfordsville.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
