Marjorie and Raymond Lisby

The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced a new scholarship. The Raymond and Marjorie Lisby Scholarship will help a Putnam County high school graduate pursue a degree in fine arts at DePauw University.

The scholarship endowment was started by former longtime Putnam County resident Marjorie Lisby.

Marjorie Harter met Raymond Lisby shortly after moving to Fillmore. The two were married in 1936 and raised their family just outside Fillmore. Marjorie's artistic interests and accomplishments include performing, visual and culinary arts. Raymond was known for his ability to take an idea and turn it into a working product in his wood and metal working shop. Their love of the arts and creativity was instilled each of their children: Mytron, Don, Dale and Anita.

Marjorie attended DePauw University, but was unable to complete her degree due to the Great Depression. She returned to DePauw in the 1960s and took visual art classes in the evenings. Her desire is to help give the young people of Putnam County the opportunity to pursue their creative dreams.

Now 96, she continues to create handiworks from her Florida home. Raymond passed away in 1997 and is buried in the Fillmore Cemetery.

Anyone may contribute to the Raymond and Marjorie Lisby Scholarship or start a new endowment in his/her own name.

Contributions to the endowment may be made payable to the Putnam County Community Foundation with "Lisby Scholarship" in the memo, and mailed to 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, IN 46135 or online at www.pcfoundation.org.

Foundation staff members are available to help donors make gifts of cash, stock, retirement assets, life insurance, bequests, real estate and other types of gifts.

The Putnam County Community Foundation administers more than 220 funds and endowments for donors, supporting a variety of charitable purposes. To learn more about how to start a new fund, visit www.pcfoundation.org or contact the office at 653-4978.
