Mary Mountz, Joan Davis and Martha Rainbolt put together bags for the Putnam County Non-Food Pantry. The distribution will occur at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1-3 p.m.

The St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will be hosting a Non-Food Pantry on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1-3 p.m. In honor of Halloween the event will also provide special treats for children which will come in bags decorated by the children from St. Andrew's Sunday school.

The church just received a $1,500 grant from the Walmart Distribution Center, which was applied for by Joan Davis on behalf of St. Andrew's. The event was started back in March of 2009 and has helped nearly 5,000 families in need.

Non-food items such as paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste and detergents will be distributed, as these are not available for purchase with food stamps. Distribution takes place on the last Saturday of every month from 1-3 p.m. at the church, which is located at 520 E. Seminary St. in Greencastle.

Putnam County residents much show a personal ID card and a copy of a food stamp card to be eligible. While waiting for their items fruit, cookies and drinks will be provided.

Community support is important to the success of the pantry. The Summer Enrichment children have helped with the non-food pantry the past three summers. The Girl Scouts and the Youth Philanthropic Group of Putnam County Foundation along with several other DePauw students have provided funding as well as helped with the collecting and distributing of the non-food pantry items.

Anyone with questions may contact St. Andrew's at 520 E. Seminary St. or 653-3921.
