The Mary Allison Board of Directors has announced that Bob and Sharon Evans have joined the ranks of Trust Patron in 2011 with Duke Energy, Tri-County Bank & Trust Co., Wabash Capital Inc., Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Walmart Store, Walmart Distribution and State Sen. Connie Lawson.

When the Mary Allison Children's Home was established in Greencastle, it was a haven for children who, for one reason or another, did not have a family or home.

As the community needs changed, it became apparent that there were better ways to serve the deserving children of Putnam County. As a result, the home on West Columbia Street was sold and the Mary Allison Children's Trust was established. Purpose of this not-for-profit trust is to meet the needs of children who reside or are being educated in Putnam County. That is accomplished by providing financial assistance for their health, education and welfare.

Each of the nine Putnam County elementary schools receives up to $1,000 per year from the Mary Allison Children's Trust to cover the immediate needs of these children. In the past, the funds have been used for eyeglasses, dental care, hearing aids and even minor surgery.

Elementary school personnel may also request additional assistance from the Mary Allison Children's Trust when special needs arise. Assistance is given when all other resources have been determined to be inadequate.

Support from the Trust Patrons and others is vital to continuing the legacy of Mary Allison and her family in assisting the children of Putnam County.

Individuals may become a part of the legacy by supporting the Mary Allison Children's Trust. Categories are: Trust Friend, $10-$100; Trust Partner, $101-$499; and Trust Patron, $500 and up. Checks should be made payable to Mary Allison Children's Trust, P.O. Box 369, Greencastle IN 46135.

For more information on the trust, persons may contact President Jim Jackson at 522-1000 or Treasurer Ginger Scott 655-2333.
