2011 Merchant Spirit of Christmas contest looking for entrants

Monday, October 31, 2011

It is time once again for local businesses to break out the tinsel, lights and ornaments and get creative for the holidays.

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce is now accepting entries for the 2011 Spirit of Christmas Award.

Since 1984, the award has been presented to the local business whose holiday decorations have best captured the "Spirit of Christmas." The traveling plaque will be presented at the Civic League's Annual Lights of Love Ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Greencastle City Hall.

Competing businesses must have their entry forms in no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 and have their businesses decorated and ready for judging by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1.

To be eligible for judging, entries may be made by sending the entry form to the Chamber of Commerce at 16 S. Jackson St. or by faxing it to 848-1015.

Businesses will be judged on the following criteria: Spirit of Christmas, originality, appropriateness for the business, continuity of theme and preparation and effort.

The contest is open to any business in the Greencastle area. Businesses do not have to be members of the Chamber of Commerce or located downtown to enter.

Anyone with questions may call Tammy Amor at the Chamber office, 653-4517.
