New Hope Fellowship hosts annual Christmas Store

The annual Christmas Store sponsored by New Hope Fellowship Church will take place at the Dixie Chopper Business Center on Friday, Dec. 9. Church members Angie Daugherty, Pastor Donnie Watson, Jolene Watson, Angie Moore, Dee Bumgardner, Matt Bumgardner, Todd Stoltey and Dawn Stoltey have already started making preparations for the event.

The New Hope Fellowship will again host its annual event, The Christmas Store this holiday season.

This year's event will take place at Dixie Chopper Business Center at the Putnam County Airport, 102 Ballard Lane, Greencastle, on Friday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m.-noon and 4-7 p.m.

For the past six years the church has hosted the Christmas store in hopes of providing all children with the wonderful Christmas they deserve. The store provides gifts for children ages 0-11 and is only available for those who apply to participate.

The event will be set up like an actual store in which participants are able to shop for which specific items they would like for their children based on their gender.

"It's a place where parents who don't have enough money to buy for their children can come and shop for free," Dee Bumgardner said.

Each year the church provides two gifts for each child along with stocking stuffers and a stuffed animal. This year families will also receive a family gift such as a DVD or board game, to help promote family time.

"It's all absolutely no cost to them," Bumgardner said. "It is only by application to make sure we can provide for each child."

The New Hope Fellowship will also be hosting a spaghetti dinner and basket auction on Saturday, Nov. 12 to help support the Christmas Store. The dinner is set for 5-7 p.m. at Tzouanakis Intermediate School in Greencastle.

Organizers will be auctioning off such items as Cincinnati Reds tickets, Colts and Pacers tickets, as well as various other items. Admission to the even is a monetary donation or an unwrapped toy.

The church is currently looking for donations from businesses and the community. One can donate money, toys or their time to help set up. Monetary donations should be sent to The Christmas Store, 1577 U.S. 231 N, Greencastle, IN 46135. The church has already received some donations and will be using any toys that were left over from previous years.

"We try to obviously overbuy in case we run into complications," said Bumgardner.

Along with donations to the Christmas Store the church is also looking for donations toward the second annual Back to School Blessing. This is an effort to provide students with school supplies such as backpacks, markers and crayons all free of charge.

Interested participants can pick up applications from the Dollar General or at the Greencastle Police Department. Forms must be returned to either the Dollar General or the church by Thursday, Dec. 1.
