CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The Greencastle girls' basketball team outlasted Southmont Tuesday for a 49-48 overtime win. The win moves Greencastle to 2-2 on the season.

Taylor Pruitt paced the Tiger Cubs with 15 points, with Shelby Earl close behind with 14 points, including four three pointers. Alex Basile scored eight, with Callan Taylor and Hannah Wainman adding four points each. Erynn Beck and Jessi Covert chipped in two points each in the win.

Greencastle started strong, putting up 20 points in the first quarter, but their production fell off in the second quarter when they were only able to score four. Southmont clawed its way back into the game and knotted it at 45-all at the end of regulation. GHS outscored the Mounties 4-3 in overtime for the win.

Greencastle assistant coach Bruce Cook said a lot of the action started with his core of seniors.

"It's our seniors. When you look at Pruitt, Wainman and Beck, there's just a lot of senior leadership right now," Cook said.

Cook said in addition to her 14 points, Earl played some tough defense and he commended the efforts of freshmen Taylor and Smiley. He also had good things to say about one of his seniors.

"Eryyn Beck really played a good game for us. She didn't score a lot. I thought she played well against Northview last week and she's coming around. She's making a nice contribution," Cook said.

Pruitt once again led the way for GHS and as Cook pointed out, she might not have the size of other girls in the post, but she more than makes up for it with her quickness and court awareness.

Greencastle will be back in action Friday in the opening game of the Putnam County Tournament at South Putnam. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m.
