Will still receive Distinguished Hoosier Award

A plan to honor ailing South Putnam High School guidance counselor Becky Brothers on Saturday has been canceled.

Organizers of the event contacted the Banner Graphic Friday morning, indicating that Miss Brothers' condition has worsened and the ceremony would not be beneficial at this time.

In spite of the lack of a formal ceremony, Brothers will still be the recipient of a Distinguished Hoosier Award.

A well-known and beloved member of the community, Miss Brothers was raised and attended school in the North Putnam area, and has been a fixture in the South Putnam Corporation as a teacher and counselor.

She was named Putnam County Citizen of the Year by the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce last January.

  • She truly is a great person and does so much for the students at South Putnam. I cannot think of a better person to receive this Honor. You are loved, Ms. Brothers.
