Breakfast with Santa to be held Dec. 10

ROACHDALE -- A Breakfast with Santa fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Roachdale Christian Church from 9 a.m. - noon. The event will raise funds for the Roachdale Christian Church food pantry.

In the past the organizer of the event Tammy Folck held Lunch with Santa at the National Guard Armory. Due to reaching maximum capacity last year and a need for a change, she moved her event to Roachdale.

"I decided I wanted to do something with my own community," she said. "The town is really getting involved."

Folck has been thinking about organizing this event for the past year. However, within the last four months is when the planning really started.

The community is really pulling together to make this a successful event. Many local businesses have given monetary donations as well as items for children's gifts as well as prizes for the parents.

"Every child will get a treat bag from Santa," said Folck. "They will also receive an age-appropriate book from Random House."

The breakfast itself will be sponsored by the Roachdale VFW and will include pancakes and sausage. There will also be donuts, cookies and milk for those who may not like pancakes.

"It's really like an old-fashioned Christmas," Folck said. "We've had such an outpouring of donations."

Santa will be arriving on a fire truck along with his elves. Parents are invited to bring their own digital cameras to the event to take their child's photograph with Santa. He will also be passing out goodie bags as well as a small gift to the children.

"It's just going to be a fun day for the kids," said Folck. "No child will be turned away."

Although the event is free to the county, participants are asked to bring either a monetary donation or something for the food pantry.

"I want to see this be a recurring thing," explained Folck. "I'd like to do it for a different organization each year."

After the event the church, food pantry, as well as Folck will go over all donations. If any money is left over it will be donated to the food pantry, which will then purchase anything they may need.

"I would love to be able to give three to five Christmas food baskets," said Folck. "You see a lot that the Roachdale Christian Church does with the food pantry. You're constantly hearing what great things they do."

The countywide event, which runs on just donations alone, is still in need of several items. They are currently looking for donors to give cookies, clean stuffed animals, candy canes and plastic ware. To donate contact Folck at 720-3917.

The Roachdale Christian Church is located at 1 N.Walnut St.
