Local pumpkin grower Lazarz meeting speaker

Larry Lazarz of LarryLand Premium Farm Products holds a pumpkin patch visitor. Lazarz will be featured speaker at Nov. 29 Putnam Extension Annual Meeting.

The Putnam County Extension Advisory Council will conduct its annual meeting at the Putnam County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5, which includes dinner and the opportunity to hear Putnam County's Larry Larzarz who will discuss the interesting role of pumpkins in Indiana and Illinois agriculture.

LarryLand Premium Farm Products is owned by the Larzarz family whose operation was recently featured on Inside Indiana Business with Gary Dick.

Unbeknownst to many, Illinois and Indiana are leading states in pumpkin production and Indiana because of Purdue Extension is the leading state in pumpkin research and development for specialty uses.

This annual meeting will also feature other Putnam County agricultural products as Putnam County is a very diverse agricultural county. As individuals assemble for the event, there will be samples and individuals on hand to represent many of these diverse agricultural products. Extension Board elections and information about Extension programs will also be features of the meeting.

An RSVP by noon, Monday, Nov. 28 would be appreciated so an accurate meal count may be obtained. Tickets are available from any Extension Board member or the Purdue Extension Putnam County Office. Note the Extension Office is now located at 12 Central Square in the Pershing Accounting and PNC Bank Building.
