Jacob Huffman, 89, of West College Corner, Ind., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011.

Born Aug. 17, 1922 in Putnam County, to Jacob and Elizabeth Chadd Huffman, he graduated from Fillmore High School in 1943.

Jacob went on to earn his Bachelor's in Education degree from Indiana University in 1953, and a Master's in Education from Indiana State University in 1958.

In 1954, he began teaching at College Corner Union High School after teaching in Indianapolis for a few years. For 13 years, Jacob chaperoned the school's senior trips to Washington, D.C., and New York City.

He was very active in his community, serving as Democratic precinct chairman since 1966, and on town council from 1976 until 2004.

Jacob was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Union County Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of both the Indiana University Alumni Association and the National Education Association.

He was a past master and 50-year member of the Liberty Lodge 58, F & AM, a member of the Royal Arch Chapter of the York Rite in Bloomington, the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Fillmore.

Jacob is survived by several cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Hurtha Ruark.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle with Rev. Paul Bowen officiating.

Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., with Masonic funeral services conducted at 7:30 p.m. by Liberty Lodge 58 F. & A.M.

Friends may also visit at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle Thursday from 5- 8 p.m.
