Fillmore Fire Department memories

To the Editor:

In regard to the late Curt Smith's description of events of 50 years ago (re: Fillmore Fire Dept. hosts 50th anniversary, dated Sept. 21, 2009).

First, Curt was not the last surviving charter member of the Fillmore Fire Department. I was also a charter member of the Fillmore Fire Department, and I think that there is at least one other charter member.

Also the tin shed was not designed as a fire station, it was an old garage that we remodeled to house our first fire truck which was on old 1937 Ford Fire Truck.

Along with the other members, I designed and built what is now the present fire station. I am now 83 years old and have lived in Sebring, Fla., since 1987.

I wish to send my best regards to the present members and wish them success in all their ventures. I learned of this article from a former member of the fire department just about a month ago.

I haven't seen the fire station in probably 35 years, hope to get up there and see it sometime.
