Angel of Hope vigil scheduled in Avon

Monday, December 5, 2011

AVON -- On Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Avon Town Hall Park, area parents and friends will participate in an annual nationwide candlelight vigil to remember children who have died.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Avon Municipal Building with a brief welcome ceremony. Attendees will then walk to the nearby Angel of Hope statue for the vigil. Parents, family members and friends are encouraged to bring white flowers the place at the angel site in memory of their loved ones.

Every year on Dec. 6, people gather at all of the Angel of Hope statues nationwide for the vigil. The statues, which were inspired by the 1993 Richard Paul Evans novel "The Christmas Box," provide a place where parents who have lost children can come to mourn and reach out to their own "little angels."

Hendricks County Angel of Hope Inc., a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, maintains the angel statue in Avon's Town Hall Park. To learn more about Hendricks County Angel of Hope, visit hendricksangel.org.
