Threatening call disrupts Monday schedule for GMS students, staff

Monday, December 5, 2011

Greencastle Middle School took precautionary measures Monday morning based on a message left on the assistant principal's voicemail stating that a third party might do harm to the school, Greencastle Police Chief Tom Sutherlin reported.

As soon as the discovery was made, Sutherlin said, authorities were notified and administrators took immediate steps. Those measures included ensuring the safety of the students by evacuating the building while authorities searched the grounds.

GMS students and staff then assembled at McAnally Center, where they remained with first-period teachers and were offered breakfast items.

Classes resumed after administrators and law enforcement personnel assessed the call together and were in agreement that the search of the grounds had turned up nothing of concern.

Officials continue to monitor the GMS building and all individuals involved, Sutherlin said.
