SPEEDWAY -- The North Putnam girls' basketball team placed third at the Speedway Classic by defeating Edinburgh 46-32 Thursday.

Kensy Asbell and Maggie Pinney scored 10 points each to lead the Cougars. LeeAnn Davis scored six points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in the North Putnam win. Bethany Wiatt had five steals on the night.

Cayla Kientz scored eight points and the Cougars were 10-for-10 from the free throw line. North Putnam has battled turnovers all season and in Thursday's third-place game they were able to limit the number to just 10.

In their opening game of the Classic, the Cougars fell to eventually tournament winner Western Boone 60-23. Sam Lucas scored seven points and had four rebounds, while Asbell had six points and eight rebounds.

Cougars head coach Jim Brothers said the team committed too many turnovers, noting his team had 31 in the contest.
