Kerry Shepherd receives Cloverdale Civic Award

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Lions Club has presented its 17th annual Cloverdale Civic Award to Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kerry Shepherd.

Shepherd was presented with the annual award in appreciation of the numerous volunteer hours he has devoted and continues to devote to the betterment of the Cloverdale community.

Shepherd has been a member of the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, and is currently in his ninth year as chief.

The department has received several grants under Shepherd's leadership, which has enabled the department to be prepared for different types of emergencies.

Shepherd joins 16 previous Cloverdale Civic Award recipients, Joyce Johnson, Mona Smith, Bob Hostetter, Don Walton, Jeff Rich, Rosemary (Davis) Berry, Jack Davis, Dr. Keith Ernst, Eric Hayman, Vera Hughes, Adeline Knoy, Bill Henson, Judy Whitaker, Rod Garrett, Norv Gottula and Wayne Sutherlin.

Nominations for the award come from the general public, and the Lions Club appreciates everyone who submitted a nomination form.

More than 60 people were in attendance to celebrate the recent presentation.

The veteran fire chief was presented a plaque by members of the Cloverdale Community Civic Award Committee. Also, his name has been inscribed on a plaque that is displayed in the Cloverdale Town Hall.

Members of the Cloverdale Community Civic Award Committee this year were James Dean, Charlie Simon, James McKee, Norv Gottula and Todd Lewis.
