City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 11:45 p.m. Monday, Timothy Ray French, 40, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman on a Montgomery County warrant for contempt of court/failure to appear in court.

French was lodged in the Putnam County Jail after initially being stopped on a traffic violation, for which he received a warning.

-- At 1:18 a.m. Saturday, a father and son were arrested on alcohol-related charges, Officer Matt Huffman reported.

He arrested Charles Martin DeFrance Sr., 59, Green Bay, Wis., and Charles Martin DeFrance Jr., 19, Ridgeland, Miss., at Locust and Elm streets.

The elder DeFrance faces a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He tested .11 percent blood-alcohol content, while the younger DeFrance was cited for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

-- On Friday, Brian Keith Morton, 48, Sandborn, was arrested by Officer Darrel Bunten and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Knox County warrant for resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and a probation violation.

One recent traffic accident was investigated by Officers Ed Wilson and Darrel Bunten.

The mishap occurred at 3:15 p.m. Saturday as a 2007 Hyundai, driven by Neil Johnson, 38, Greencastle, was stopped on Shadowlawn Avenue, waiting to turn left onto Melrose Drive.

His car was struck from behind by a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM, driven by Katie Douglas, 16, Greencastle, police said.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

In other reports, two traffic citations were issued Friday by city officers.

-- At 9:50 p.m., Officer Huffman stopped Michelle Rene Tinsley, 41, Greencastle, at Shadowlawn Avenue and Melrose Drive and cited her for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

-- At 8:20 p.m., Heidi Whitt, 30, Greencastle, was ticketed by Capt. Inman on Bloomington Street for an expired license plate.

Sheriff's Department

On Monday, Jan. 2 at 5:50 p.m. Elad Levy, 28, Indianapolis, was eastbound on County Road 600 North in a 2002 Chevrolet van when he met Thomas J. Welch, 19, Coatesville, westbound in a 1995 Ford F250.

Both drivers said they were slightly left of center because of snow and ice on the road. Due to the conditions they were unable to avoid a collision.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.
