Sylvia Mae (Young) Bauer

Sylvia Mae (Young) Bauer, 81 of Belton, Mo., passed away Saturday, Jan. 7.

Mrs. Bauer was born Feb. 19, 1930 in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Clifford L. and Virgie Alice (Lyons) Young.

On May 22, 1947 she was united in marriage with Edwin Walter Bauer Jr. in Topeka, where they made their home until 1954 when the family moved to Kansas City. In 1992 they moved to Peculiar, Mo. Mr. Bauer passed away on July 23, 1994.

In 1995 Mrs. Bauer moved to Raymore, Mo., then to Belton in 2001.

She had worked as a keypunch operator for both Phillips Petroleum and Bendix Corporation but had devoted most of her life to being a homemaker.

Mrs. Bauer was a member of the D.A.R and the New England Historical and Genealogical Society and had dedicated 35 years of her life to family history research.

Mrs. Bauer was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Walter Bauer Jr.; her parents, Clifford L. and Virgie A. (Lyons) Young; two brothers, Lowell and Clifford Young; and one sister, Leah Eames.

She is survived by her only child, Penny Barker and husband, Carl of Clinton, Mo.; one sister, Velma Coffee of Carbondale, Kan.; four step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bauer's cremation is being handled by Wallace Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Mo. Graveside inurnment service will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
