Rev. Glendon Carl Dixon Sr.

Rev. Glendon Carl Dixon Sr., age 84, of Brookville, Ind., died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at his residence.

Born Aug. 6, 1927 in Ashburn, Mo., he was the son of the late Jesse Dow and Trulla Bernadine (Troutner) Dixon.

On May 6, 1956 he and the former Quannah Scott were united in marriage, and she survives.

He was retired from the United States Navy, having served as a master chief electronics technician for 25 years.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, he became a United Methodist minister with the Southern Indiana Conference for more than 20 years. He was pastor at the Whitcomb United Methodist Church from June 1974 to June 1976.

He last served at the Brick Chapel and Union Chapel United Methodist Churches near Greencastle for eight years prior to his retirement in 1990.

Besides Quannah, his wife of more than 55 years, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Faith (Brent) Riehle of Brookville, and Deborah (Lamar) Tindle of Anderson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris (Gloria) Dixon of Brookville and Paul (Tina) Dixon of Bainbridge; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Lou Wells of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dixie Shepard of Hammond, Ind.; three brothers, Junior Dixon of Hammond, Kenneth Dixon of Gautier, Miss., and Rev. Ray Dixon of Amo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glendon Carl Dixon Jr., who died Oct. 24, 1998, as well as two sisters.

Family and friends may visit from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Ave., Brookville.

Kevin Waltz will officiate funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, Brookville. Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post 77 of the American Legion will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, the Whitcomb United Methodist Church or the Brick and Union Chapel United Methodist Churches.
