Carl E. Lockhart

Carl E. Lockhart, 84, of Plainfield, passed away on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1927 and was the son of the late Charles B. and Mary E. (Jones) Lockhart.

Carl graduated from Quincy High School, served his country in the Army Air Force and graduated from Indiana University with a BS in geology.

After graduating from IU, he worked as a geologist for major oil companies in the Western states and in Mexico. He later worked on his own, providing professional geological services to oil companies and independent operators in the Western states. After retiring, he left his home in Casper, Wyo., and moved back to Indiana.

He is survived by sisters Ruth Martin of Brazil and Sharon Hall of Bloomington, and by brothers Dennis (Ann) of Brownsburg and Gene (Marilyn) of Plainfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister, Floy Carter, and a brother, Vance.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 21 from noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mannan Cemetery.

The family gives thanks to Carl's doctors at IU West (Spurgin, Erickson, Steele and Eberwine) for the great care they gave. Also to be commended is the staff at Sugar Grove Assisted Living for the loving and compassionate care given to Carl. The care given by Advocate Hospice and Dr. Kerlin was a great comfort for the final end of life's journey.
