LYFORD -- A Parke County teenager has died of injuries sustained in an accident Sunday afternoon on U.S. 41, near Lyford.

The three-vehicle accident in Parke County claimed the life of Macey Crum, 19, Bloomingdale, who died Monday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

About 4 p.m. Sunday, Crum was reportedly southbound on U.S. 41, just north of State Road 163, when witnesses said her vehicle ran off the road and she overcorrected.

Her car reportedly veered into the northbound lane, where it collided with a pickup truck driven by Paul Keller, 86, Hillsboro, the Parke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Meanwhile, a third vehicle, driven by Bret Pharr, 51, Rockville, was behind the Keller truck when the initial collision occurred. Pharr's vehicle struck the Keller truck and went into a roadside ditch. Keller's pickup also overturned into a ditch.

Impact of the collision sent the Crum car backward into a ditch on the west side of U.S. 41, where the vehicle caught fire.

Crum and Keller were transported to Union Hospital, Clinton. Crum was subsequently airlifted via LifeLine helicopter to Methodist Hospital, where she died later from head injuries.

Keller was treated for a hip injury, while Pharr and his passenger were not injured in the accident.
