After dropping a tough contest to conference foe Cascade Friday, Greencastle rebounded with a 38-point victory over visiting Turkey Run Saturday 60-22.
Head coach Bradley Key talked about the impressive first half his defense put together against the Warriors.
"We wanted to make sure to imitate the same intensity we had against Cascade and overall we started pretty well," Key said. "The defense did a great job in the first quarter putting pressure on them, not allowing any shots -- we only allowed one field goal in the first half.
"Granted, Turkey Run is rebuilding after some really good years, but our girls still played with a lot of intensity, which is a good thing," Key added.
Hannah Wainman led the Tiger Cubs with 15 points, with Taylor Pruitt chipping in 12 points. Jessi Covert scored seven, with Jessica Lenihan, Erynn Beck and Sydney Smiley scoring six points each. Callan Taylor and Rayleigh Amis recorded three points each, with Alex Basile contributing one point in the victory.
Up next for GHS will be a visit from county and conference foe North Putnam Friday at 6 p.m. Key said he wants to see his team focus on what they have been and complimented two players for the strides they've made.
"We're going to continue to build on things that we know we've gotten better at," Key said. "We talk about someone else needing to show up. Really starting to see Rayleigh Amis starting to play much stronger basketball, which is good to see. Jessi Covert -- the same thing. I thought both of them have been playing at a much higher level. Want to get better at taking the ball to the basket and both of those girls are at least attempting it."
Key also talked about Beck's play. He said she played extended minutes and the offense didn't' skip a beat. Key also said offensively his team is doing a better job of understanding the difference between a great shot and a good shot.
