George W. 'Big G' Carter

George W. "Big G" Carter, 74, of Brazil, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012.

George was born in Indianapolis on March 23, 1937, the son of George W. Carter Sr. and Dorothy (Weissmuller) Carter.

He served his country in the Indiana Army National Guard.

George married Marsha L. Riley on Sept. 22, 1958. He worked for American Vitrified, later known as Logan Clay, for 23 years. After its closing, he worked for Pell's Bargain-mart and Owen Detective mine security.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, as well as fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Marsha Carter of Brazil; children Rick Carter (Marcia) of Brazil, Steve Carter (Brenda) of Brazil, Lori Ross (Joe Melin) of Bowling Green, Lisa Slater (Tim) of Brazil and Bill Carter of Brazil; grandchildren Amber Carter, Rikki Carter, Stephanie Quinn, Kelsey Carter, April Chamness, Heather Ross, Greg Carter, Tairyn Starr, Tim Slater II, Jordon Slater, Bill Carter II, Josh Carter, David Alexander and Chris Alexander; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother Michael Carter (Louise) of Fillmore, IN; sister-in-law Pat Carter of Indianapolis; brothers-in-law Dick Riley (Judy) of Tennessee and Ed Riley of Brazil; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Perry Carter and a sister Georgia (Bill) Goodwin.

Services will be at French Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 with Pastor Steve Loft officiating. Burial will follow at Centerpoint Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
