Guy Prentice Gaston

Guy Prentice Gaston, age 87, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at St. Vincent Heart Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Oct. 26, 1924 in Winnebago, Ill., the son of Guy and Nina Susan (McClure) Gaston Sr., he was a 1941 graduate of Belle Union High School and had attended Purdue University.

He married Norma Lucille (Poynter) Gaston on Nov. 26, 1946, and she survives.

Guy had been a farmer for several years in the Belle Union area of Putnam County. He had also worked with his brother at Gaston Engineering and was employed with the South Putnam Schools for 30 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion.

For many years he was a member of New Providence Baptist Church and in recent years was a member of the Greencastle Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Debra Goodson and husband James of Somerset, Ky., Diana Callahan and husband Michael of Greencastle and Dawn Puckett and husband Kieth of Greencastle; a brother, Robert Duane Gaston and wife Mary of Greencastle; six grandchildren, Taylor L. Goodson and wife Harmony, Kelly C. Goodson, Joshua Callahan and wife Lina, Jessica Woolery and husband William, Anthony Puckett and wife Sarah, and Andrew Cory Puckett and wife Megan; and nine great-grandchildren, Hope Goodson, Elijah Callahan, Emma Callahan, Emilio Gallegos, Ezekiel Callahan, Leviticus Arthur, Chase Wm. Woolery, Coraline Willow Grace Woolery and Brody Puckett.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Elwin, Louis, Eugene and Francis Gaston.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Mark Miller officiating and interment to follow at New Providence Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2.
