Gerhardt - 50th Anniversary

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Evert and Doris Gerhardt of Greencastle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, Feb. 10.

Evert Dale Gerhardt and Doris May Buchhorn were married on Saturday, Feb. 10, 1962 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Effingham, Ill. The 29 guests in attendance enjoyed a sunny, 50-degree day.

The Gerhardts have lived in Greencastle the past 48 years. Evert worked at the Putnam County Hospital for 26 years. Doris and Evert have both attended the Greencastle Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for 48 years.

Some of Doris and Evert's fondest memories are of their travels all across the United States to attend annual conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Doris and Evert have one son, Luke, whom they say they received as a "19th wedding anniversary present." Luke lives in Greencastle with his wife Danielle and 11-year-old son Richard.

The Gerhardts celebrated their day in private, but are awaiting a much anticipated anniversary surprise from their family.
