GPD investigating alleged break-in attempt by armed man

Police investigate Thursday morning's alleged attempted break-in at Castle Rock Apartments.

The Greencastle Police Department continues to investigate break-in attempt by an armed man that allegedly took place Thursday morning.

A female subject at the apartment called police at 8:27 a.m. alleging a man armed with a snub-nosed handgun tried to break into her home at the Castle Rock Apartments, 315 N. Jackson St.

The subject is described as dark-skinned, possibly Native American, approximately 6-feet-6-inches tall and 250-300 pounds. He is further described as "scruffy-looking" with a ponytail.

The subject was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and may be armed.

Police took the woman to the police station for further questioning around 10 a.m.

Officers patrolled the city throughout the day attempting to find the man matching the description given.

As of late afternoon, Chief Tom Sutherlin said no suspect had been located but the investigation was ongoing.

Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins said police had received similar calls from the same apartment twice on Wednesday.
