Truck crashes to avoid hitting car ahead on 231
An act of negligence caused a major accident on U.S. 231 North, which left a truck driver in the Putnam County Hospital on Friday afternoon.
Truck driver Terry Campell of Poling Trucking Co. of Nashville, Ind., was driving north on 231 when a small silver car pulled out in front of him.
"The vehicle in front of him slammed on his brakes," said Putnam County Sheriff's Captain Danny Wallace. "Instead of hitting him, he swerved left and hit a guardrail and ran into some trees."
Campbell, of Fortville, Ind., was driving a truck loaded with rocks at the time. As the truck went over the guardrail it flipped onto its side. He was taken to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life.
"He had some cuts and bruises," said Wallace. "He was taken as a precaution."
Authorities have yet to track down the car, which reportedly caused the accident.
Lt. Col. Tom Helmer, Segt. Gregg Slover and Deputy Josh Boller were on scene to help with the accident.
