Walking Wednesdays to resume April 4

Thursday, March 29, 2012

The Putnam County Health Coalition has announced that the 2012 spring series of Walking Wednesdays is set to start on April 4, which also happens to be National Walking Day.

The spring series of Walking Wednesdays will be held each Wednesday for eight weeks from April 4 through May 23.

As with past Walking Wednesdays, the organized walk will start from a different location each Wednesday between 5 and 6 p.m.

The first week (April 4) will begin from the People Pathways Gazebo across from the Greencastle Walmart (off Calbert Way). Week 2 will be at the Big Walnut Sports Park.

Anyone who would like to join others in walking together at the designated time is encouraged to participate. There will be three distances of approximately one mile, two miles and 3.5 miles designated on the path each week.

To encourage participation, the Health Coalition will draw for a prize at the end of the spring walking program. Participants who take part in the program can put their name in for the drawing each week that they participate.

Then Health Coalition encourages all local citizens to set a goal of becoming more active in the coming months whether you participate in the walking program or walk or do other activities on your own or at different times. The main thing is to find an activity to enjoy and to strive to be more active.

For more information about the spring series of Walking Wednesdays, and a complete list of the location of each walk, persons may contact Jackie Baumann (653-8411) at the Putnam County Office of the Purdue Extension Service or Troy Scott (653-3395) with the City of Greencastle.
