David E. Berry is a Republican candidate for 1st District Putnam County commissioner in the May 8 primary.

Born and raised in Putnam County, Berry has lived in the county for 56-1/2 of his 59 years and has been married to wife LaDonna for 37 years. They have three adult daughters and two grandchildren.

Currently serving as Jackson Township trustee, an office he's held for 12 years, Berry previously served on the Jackson Township Advisory Board. Earlier he had served on the Clinton Township Advisory Board.

"I have served on various boards of directors," Berry said, "including Bainbridge Youth League where I served as a coach and umpire, Putnam County Fair Board where I served as Sheep Barn superintendent, United Way of Putnam County Board of Directors, and Purdue Extension Board for Putnam County."

While in college, Berry represented Indiana State University in the NCAA Trap and Skeet Championships. He is an NRA-certified firearms instructor, qualified in rifle, shotgun and handgun.

A former volunteer firefighter, Berry was twice selected by department members as Fireman of the Year and has served as department treasurer.

A Putnam County Sheep Association supporter, Berry remains active in fair activities as part of the judging team for the State Fair Sheep Shearing Contest.

He attends Roachdale Presbyterian Church.

"The Putnam County Board of Commissioners is a three-member board dedicated to the welfare of all county residents," Berry said. "With my experience serving on other boards, I bring ability to make decisions based on the information and facts presented, not on personal or unfounded rumors.

"I look forward to listening to concerns and comments from all county residents," Berry said. "I promise public service, not politics."
