Donald K. Walton is a Republican candidate for Putnam County Commissioner, Third District, in the May 8 primary election.

The Third District includes the townships of Cloverdale, Jefferson, Warren and Washington. Although the representative must live in this district, voters throughout the county elect the position.

Born in Cloverdale, Walton has lived in Putnam County his entire life. He graduated from Belle Union High School and served in the U.S. Army.

He is married to Micalene, and they have three children and five grandchildren.

Walton is a self-employed bricklayer and contractor. He owns and operates Don Walton Builders and Stove Sales in Cloverdale. He is a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ.

As commissioner, Walton seeks to make Putnam County a better place to live. He will work with the county council, city and town officials, townships trustees and economic development boards in getting this done.

Among Walton's priorities should he be elected is a strong interest in upgrading the many miles of roads and bridges in the county. He will continue working with our state legislature, trying to get more money for roads.

Walton considers himself "an advocate and strong supporter of well-planned economic development for the county."

Boards on which Walton is currently serving include the Greencastle-Putnam County Economic Development board, West Central Indiana Economic Development board in Terre Haute and Putnam County Operation Life board. He is also a member of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce.

As a commissioner, he said he would continue working with programs and grants for the county.

Walton previously served as a Putnam County commissioner from 1976 through 2004. He also spent a single term on the Putnam County Council from 2004 through 2008.
