Electrical fire destroys Belle Union home

An electrical fire destroyed the Belle Union home owned by Sherri Terry on Wednesday. Crews from 10 departments responded, including Reelsville firefighter Oren Henry and Bainbridge Fire Chief Mike Aynes (right).

BELLE UNION -- Firefighters from 10 departments spent the majority of Wednesday afternoon battling a fire that engulfed an entire home.

Putnam County 911 dispatch received a call at 11:44 a.m. at the home of Sherri Terry located at 5646 S. 800 East.

"It was an electrical fire in the wall of the bedroom," said Jefferson Township Fire Chief Rick Cooper. "There's no doubt about that."

Terry, along with a family friend, was in the home when the fire started. The two noticed the fire and were able to get out of the home safely.

Nearly 21,000 gallons of water were used to battle the blaze, which took firefighters more four hours to put out.

The home was a total loss.

The fire departments responding were Mill Creek, Bainbridge, Jefferson Township, Fillmore, Reelsville, Greencastle, Cloverdale, Danville, A&A Township and Stilesville. Operation Life, Putnam County Sheriff's Department and the State Police were also on scene.
