Cloverdale gets big win over Monrovia

Friday, April 20, 2012

CLAYTON -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team traveled to Deer Creek Golf Course to face the Monrovia Bulldogs and came away with a 222-177 victory.

Zach Hall paced the Clovers with a medalist round of 43. Colte Tomlinson and Freddy Fislar followed with a pair of 44s. Aaron Whitlock shot a 46, while Rylan Mattocks fired a 49 and Brody Pfaff shot a 59.

"We are starting to see some results from the work we are putting in," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "We struck the ball much better and were just much sharper in general. Deer Creek is playing very tough right now, and we ran into some difficulty. However, we were much improved in coping with adversity and playing with some confidence.

"Zach and Colte are starting to get their games in shape, and Freddy is making improvement daily. Aaron played his best round of the season, although his score does not reflect how well he managed the course and his game," Wokoun added.

Wokoun went on to say he believes the team is gaining more confidence in their abilities and what they want to accomplish. He thinks the team will experience some inconsistency for a while, but noted his team is realizing what they're capable of.

Cloverdale will travel to Twin Bridges to face North Putnam Monday.
