Renos Gray McKamey

Renos Gray McKamey, age 76, Cloverdale, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born at home on Dec. 5, 1935 in Cloverdale Township, the son of Ira C. and Anita (Herington) McKamey.

He attended Cloverdale Schools.

He married Mary Elizabeth Casida on May 31, 1961, and she survives.

He was a farmer, raising hogs and farming his home place and other acreage until retiring from farming in 1983. He loved working the land and growing vegetables and caring for fruit trees in his home garden and orchard.

He retired from the Putnam County Highway Department in December 2000. He was also previously employed by Mallory Capacitor Co., Greencastle; National Food Producers, Belle Union; Cloverdale Community Schools; and the Cloverdale Truck Stop.

He was a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ, having been baptized on Feb. 18, 1951.

Besides his wife survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Ann and Dean Fallis, West Point, and Ava Lea and Steve Larkins, Floyds Knobs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jon P. and Joan McKamey, Brookville, and Anson W. and Tonya McKamey, Cloverdale; a granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth McKamey, Brookville; three step-granddaughters, Tiffany Compton, Indianapolis, and Camille and Phoebe Larkins, Ewa Beach, Hawaii; a sister, Delores (Lowell) Barr, Talladega, Ala., and two brothers, Calvin (Jean) McKamey, Cloverdale, and Herchel (Diane) McKamey, Huntington; and his beloved poodle Mickey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Isla Joyce McKamey, Wanda Jean McKamey Collins, and Trillis McKamey Collier; and a brother, Wayne McKamey.

Family and friends may gather Thursday, May 17 at 5 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, where a memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.

His wishes were to donate his body for scientific research. Following cremation, his ashes will be scattered on the family farm.
