GMS captures conference title

The Greencastle Middle School girls' track team won the conference meet Thursday at Cascade. The Tiger Cubs were first with 129, with South Putnam placing third with 50, North Putnam fourth with 40 and Cloverdale fifth with 21.

Bailey Zapp won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.39, while Katerina King won the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.24. King also won the 200-meter dash by edging out a Cascade opponent by a hundreth of a second with a time of 28.92 in the event.

Gracie Smith shattered a school record after posting a time of 9:30.87 in the 2,400-meter run. The 1,600-meter relay team of Amelia Smith, Naomi Farkass, Hannah Brattain and Corrie Romer set a record with a time of 4:39.93.

GMS athletes placing second on the day include Katlyn Haynes (2,400), Farkass (100 H), Allison White (high jump), Brattain (1,600), Smith (800), Mallary Meyer (Discus) and King (long jump).
