County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* On Friday, May 18 at 12:40 p.m. Jennifer Jean Castellanos, 34, Indianapolis, was arrested for check deception.

At 1:25 p.m. Dion Anthony Willis, 20, Brazil, was housed at the jail for possession of marijuana.

At 1:55 p.m. Christina Michelle Matthews, 38, Greencastle, was charged with violation of home detention.

At 3 p.m. Mark Allen Poynter, 26, no city listed, was held at the jail for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 9:33 p.m. Lee Wayne Kiger, 42, Greencastle, was booked in for domestic battery.

* On Saturday, May 19 at 4:10 a.m. Megan Kathleen Asbell, 31, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

At 11:57 a.m. Christopher Ryan Dunn, 33, Tuckerman, Ark., was charged with public intoxication.

* On Sunday, May 20 at 2:40 a.m. Christopher Earl Westmoreland, 22, Cloverdale, was booked in on two counts of battery.

At 4 a.m. Kenneth Troy Chadwell, 43, Roachdale, was arrested for public intoxication.

At 4:17 a.m. Marsha Susan Chadwell, 48, Roachdale, was housed at the jail for battery.

At 2:10 p.m. Raymond Douglas Gray, 20, Poland, was charged with theft.

At 9 p.m. Austin Ray Chadd, 18, Greencastle, was held at the jail for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

At 9:50 p.m. Melissa Sue Hayes-Gorham, 37, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, operating while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, neglect of a dependent and failure to appear.

At 10:22 p.m. Gerald Lee Alley Jr., 28, New Market, was arrested for battery with bodily injury and neglect of a dependent.

City Police

Three people were arrested over the weekend by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 2 a.m. Saturday, John Walid Haddad, 28, Oaklawn, Ill., was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham for public intoxication at the corner of Poplar and Market streets.

Haddad, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, registered .17 percent blood-alcohol content under portable breathalyzer testing (PBT).

-- At 5:22 p.m. Saturday, Paul Mullins, 52, Coatesville, was arrested at a North Madison Street residence by Officer Jeff Modlin on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Mullins was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

-- At 7:27 p.m. Saturday, Thomas Lee Gorham, 32, Greencastle, was arrested at the Walmart store for domestic battery, criminal confinement-adult and public intoxication.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Gorham was arrested by Sgt. Chris Jones.

Four recent traffic accidents were investigated by GPD.

-- At 7:50 p.m. May 11, a two-vehicle accident resulted in an estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage that included damage to two properties along South Jackson Street.

Capt. Charles Inman reported that Hailey Wright, 20, Greencastle, was southbound on Jackson Street, driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, when she drove left of center and struck the side of a pop-up camper being pulled by a 2004 Pontiac Montana, being driven by Brian Kemp, 32, Greencastle.

After the collision Wright reportedly overcorrected and went off the west edge of the road, damaging the front lawn of the Rick Parrish residence 922 S. Jackson St., and striking the concrete and brick front porch at the 1000 S. Jackson St. home of Mike Tzouanakis.

Wright was ticketed for driving left of center.

-- At 12:11 p.m. Thursday, May 17, three vehicles were damaged in an accident on Washington Street, just east of the courthouse square.

Benjamin Taylor, 71, Greencastle, and Leann Francis, 31, Greencastle, had stopped their vehicles for a red light when a 2005 Lincoln, driven by Cody Spear, 24, Crawfordsville, did not stop in time.

Spear's car struck the rear of Taylor's 2009 Ford F-150, pushing it into the rear of Francis' 2000 Dodge Dakota.

Spear told Officer Ed Wilson he was momentarily distracted by a dog inside the car.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 10:52 a.m. Sunday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Veterans Highway and Warren Drive.

Officer Darrel Bunten reported that Jamie Helton, 31, Greencastle, pulled a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse southbound out of Warren Drive without seeing an oncoming 2006 Kia Sedona, driven eastbound by Brian Gardner, 36, Greencastle, on Veterans Highway.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 12:47 p.m. Monday, a two-car mishap occurred on the east side of the square as Jerry Alexander, 36, Roachdale, reportedly tried to back a 2003 Ford Taurus into a parking space in front of Goodwill.

Officer Bunten noted that a 2011 Hyundai, driven by Teresa Parrish, 60, Greencastle, was turning onto Indiana Street from Franklin Street, when the Alexander car backed into it.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Department

* On Saturday, May 19 at 8:58 p.m. Daniel D. Trivett Jr., 43, Fillmore, was traveling on County Road 725 East in a 2007 Dodge Magnum when a deer entered the roadway. Trivett swerved into a ditch and hit a tree.

Damage was listed at $5,001-$10,000.
