South Putnam softball bound for semi-state Saturday

If the South Putnam softball team hopes to return to Indianapolis and defend its 2011 state title, it will have to follow a familiar path.

The road to Ben Davis leads through Southern Indiana, in the form of the Forest Park Regional, which the Eagles (28-0) won last year on their way to the championship.

The South Putnam will take on Union County (22-7) in the 11 a.m. opening game of the regional. The day's second game will take place at approximately 12:30 p.m. when South Knox (20-8) battles Switzerland County (10-16).

The Forest Park Regional championship game will take place at 7 p.m.

The games will take place at Cedar Crest Intermediate School, which is located on State Road 162 between Jasper and Ferdinand.

Tickets are $6 for a single session or $9 for the entire day. The rain date is Monday, June 4.

Cedar Crest Intermediate School is located at 4770 S. State Road 162, Huntingburg, IN 47542. From U.S. 231 in Jasper, motorists should go east and then south on State Road 162. The school is 5.5 miles south of Jasper.

Cedar Crest is located on the east side of the road, with the field and parking on the north side of the school.
