City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- Nicholas Weddell, 31, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Albert Epple at a residence on East Berry Street at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Weddell was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of residential entry and battery.

-- Two young women were arrested Wednesday evening at the Greencastle Walmart store on Indianapolis Road on theft charges, Officer Darrel Bunten reported.

Kaeli A. Gray, 18, Greencastle, allegedly took $30.36 worth of merchandise, including Maybelline eye makeup and wart removal medication.

Taylor Migliano, 19, Greencastle, allegedly took $10.51 worth of merchandise, including Maybelline makeup and fingernail glue.

-- At 5 a.m. Thursday, Peter Beretta, 30, Greencastle, was arrested on a Hendricks County warrant by Capt. Mike Hanlon.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, he will face a battery charge.

A minor traffic accident was reported on East Liberty Street at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Sgt. Chris Jones noted that Tom Dloniak, 48, Greencastle, was backing a 1995 Honda Passport and attempting to pull into a parking space on the south side of Liberty Street when it struck a parked 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe, owned by Mandy Cofer, Greencastle.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Seven recent traffic citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Chelsea Fidler, 19, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham for 50 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

-- At 9:58 p.m. Wednesday, Chris Puhala, 43, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Eastham for 57 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

-- At 9:03 p.m. Tuesday, Kierstan Kaufman, 19, Plainfield, was ticketed by Officer Eric Vaughan for 54 mph in a 30-mph zone on Fillmore Road.

-- At 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, Denise Stutler, 39, Brazil, was cited by Reserve Officer David Clodfelter for 45 mph in a 30-mph zone at South Jackson Street and Veterans Highway.

-- At 8:09 p.m. Monday, Chad McMahon, 30, Clayton, was ticketed by Officer Eric Vaughan for 55 mph in a 40-mph zone on State Road 240.

-- At 7:16 p.m. Monday, Tyler Ruble, 19, Bainbridge, was cited by Officer Vaughan on Bloomington Street for having an expired license plate (Jan. 31).

-- At 3:57 p.m. Sunday, David Heavin, 65, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Bunten for disregarding an automatic signal at Round Barn Road and Indianapolis Road.

Sheriff's Department

* On Wednesday, May 30 at 11:30 a.m. Caleb R. Trinkle, 28, Spencer, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2002 Ford Explorer. Trinkle had some type of belt laying on his windshield and it blew into the roadway.

Trinkle made a U-turn to retrieve the belt in front of the northbound 1996 Mazda 626 driven by Perry S. Bennett, 71, Cloverdale. Bennett could not avoid Trinkle's SUV.

Bennett complained of lower leg pain and two of his passengers, Cody Bennett, 18, and Heath Bennett, 17, both complained of chest pain.

Damage $5,001-$10,000.

* At 11:43 p.m. Jaike P. Matthews, 16, Reelsville, was southbound on County Road 100 East in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am when a deer ran into his path.

He swerved to miss the deer and lost control, leaving the west side the road and running through a shallow ditch, striking a utility a pole.

Damage $5,001-$10,000.
