GREENWOOD -- Sometimes it's just not your day. The Greencastle boys' golf team ventured to the Center Grove Regional Thursday, marking the first time a GHS team make the trek since the 1979 season. The Tiger Cubs narrowly missed advancing as a team, shooting a 313, six shots off the final advancing score.

Greencastle tied for fifth overall as they, Chatard and Lawrence Central all finished with rounds of 313. Chatard and GHS finished in fifth place after going to the fifth scorecard.

On a day in stark contrast to Monday's rainy sectional, golfers were welcomed by bright skies and little wind. The prime conditions normally would allow for low scores, but the round featured a rollercoaster of scoring.

Greencastle was no exception.

Sophomore Luke Brotherton led GHS with a team-low 73, missing advancing to the IHSAA State Final Tournament by a single stroke. Brotherton put together a solid round, blending booming drives with touch around the green.

Sophomore Alec Davis followed with a 75. Davis posted a 36 on his opening nine holes and finished his day by coming into the clubhouse with a 39. Senior Brad Haussin was able to recover from a rough start, where he shot a 43, and shoot 39 on his second nine for a total of 82.

Fellow senior Raymond Stinson shot an 83 on the day, posting scores of 43 and 40.

Sophomore Tanner Dean struggled out of the game to card a 46, but recovered on the front nine and improved by six strokes to post a 40 to give him a total of 86 on the day.

The Greencastle team sat with eyes fixed as a multitude of scenarios played out before them as the scores trickled in. They were one of the first teams to finish and their score of 313 placed them firmly in the mix.

Things were still up in the air as the final scores were posted, but as the scores were tallied, GHS was on the outside looking in. Although they missed out making it to the final tournament, the GHS team seemed to take the news in stride.

Greencastle will be losing Haussin and Stinson to graduation, but will welcome back the score of Davis, Brotherton and Dean to anchor the 2012-13 squad.
