First of several local street closings to take effect Monday

Friday, June 8, 2012
The Indiana Department of Transportation hasn't wasted any time posting signs about the upcoming detour on U.S. 231 (Bloomington Street) Beginning June 18, the road will be closed at Anderson Street to facilitate intersection improvements there. The initial closing is expected to last a week. South Jackson Street and Veterans Highway will provide the detour route.

Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray has announced that South Locust Street will be closed at Anderson Street beginning Monday, June 11.

The contract on the Anderson Street project allows for that closure to last up to 45 days.

The following Monday, June 18, Bloomington Street (U.S. 231) will be closed at Anderson Street. This first closure at that intersection is scheduled to last for only one week.

U.S. 231 traffic will be directed over Jackson Street and Veterans Memorial Highway during the Bloomington/U.S. 231 closure.

That same day, Indiana Street -- from Washington Street to the alley north of the Vine Street lot -- will be closed for a week for the connection of the fire line for the bookstore building downtown.

In weeks to come, closures on Albin Pond Road for the dam repair project and other Stellar Project-related street closings and delays for construction will be necessary, Mayor Murray said.

The City of Greencastle intends to announce the closures on a weekly basis to keep the status of local streets as current as possible.
