Auditions Sunday, Monday for 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'

Director Shelly McFadden will hold two sessions of auditions for the Putnam County Playhouse musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

The first session will be Sunday, June 17 at 3 p.m. The second session will be Monday, June 18 at 7 p.m. Both sessions will be at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre.

"Thoroughly Modern Millie" will be produced Aug. 9-11 and Aug. 15-18. The musical is sponsored in part by First National Bank.

All roles are available. Everyone auditioning should prepare a song and bring sheet music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided.

Vocal musical director for the production is Lori Miller. There will also be readings from the script and a dance audition conducted by choreographer Lita Sandy.

Among the roles to be cast are:

-- Millie Dillmount, a young girl from Kansas who comes to New York City.

-- Jimmy Smith, a young paperclip salesman.

-- Trevor Greydon III, boss at the Sincere Trust Co.

-- Dorothy Brown, Millie's best friend.

-- Mrs. Meers, owner of the Priscilla Hotel where Millie and Dorothy live.

-- Muzzy Von Hossmere, a wealthy widow.

-- Peg Flannery, head of the stenography pool at the Sincere Trust Co.

There are also many smaller speaking/singing roles and a large ensemble of women and men.

Stage ages of the four leading roles are early 20s. Other roles are stage ages 20 and up. There are no roles for children in this production.

"Thoroughly Modern Millie" won the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Musical in 2002. It has music by Jeanne Tesori and lyrics by Dick Scanlon. The book, based on the 1967 film starring Julie Andrews, is by Scanlon and Richard Morris.
