In 1896 when Mary Allison developed the Greencastle Orphan's Home on 150 acres of land just west of the city, she most likely didn't realize how great a legacy she was creating.

On July 13, the eighth annual Mary Allison Golf Outing at Clover Meadows Golf Course, Cloverdale will help raise funds for the Mary Allison Children's Trust that is the legacy of the original orphan's home.

The trust was developed when the home was closed in the 1960s.

Every year each Putnam County elementary school is given $1,000 from the fund to be used for medical, healthcare, school supplies or clothing, to name a few, for students when all other resources are exhausted.

At least 10 children from each of the county elementary schools receive financial aid each year from the trust.

Money is unrestricted, meaning school officials can use them for any purpose as long as it benefits the students.

Registration for the golf outing begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost of the golf outing is $200 per four-person team and $50 for hole sponsors.

Prizes will include $200 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third.

There will also be door prizes, and mulligans are three for $10.

The public is invited to participate in this annual event.

Trust sponsors for the golf outing include York Automotive, Wal-Mart Distribution, Duke Energy, Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Tri-County Bank & Trust and Wabash Capital.

This year anyone who hits a hole in one at the designated hole will win a 2012 Buick LaCrosse donated by York Automotive.

Forms and fees are due by July 9 to the Mary Allison Children's Trust, P.O. Box 369, Greencastle, IN 46135.
