Norma Sutherlin Hough

Norma Jean Sutherlin Hough took her final rest on June 3, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Hospice near her home in Sebring, Fla. She was 87.

Born Norma "Jean" Valentine to Samuel and Alma Valentine on Aug. 24, 1924 in Ferndale, Ind.

She graduated from Bainbridge High School, married Joseph Henry Sutherlin in 1944, and after World War II they settled in Groveland, where Jean was a homemaker, gardener, farm hand, quilter, nurse's aid at Danville Regional Hospital and mother to five children.

Jean was active in the Groveland Presbyterian Church where the family attended regularly.

After Joseph Sutherlin passed away in 1987, Jean continued to maintain the family home in Groveland.

She became acquainted with Gene Hough, whom she married on Oct. 24, 1992. She and Gene began the wonderful journey of the past 20 years. They were able to travel and see many places and things. They moved their home permanently to Sebring, Fla., in 1995, where she became an avid fisher, loved bingo, playing cards and spending time with many friends.

She and Gene were members of Saint John's Methodist Church in Sebring.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Hough; two daughters, Barbara MacCaughern and Cheryl Ann Lee; three sons, Steven Jerome, William Bruce and John Harvey Sutherlin; three brothers, two sisters and a large extended family.

A memorial service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at Bainbridge Cemetery.
