Sarah New

Fair Queen contestant Sarah New is a 19-year-old from Fillmore. She is the daughter of Joe and Mary Cash and the sister of Justin, 17, Carey, 16 and J.D., 8.

New is a recent graduate of South Putnam High School. She will be attending Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in the fall where she will participate in Western and Hunt Seat Equestrian Teams.

Her high school activities included FFA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Wings, Ambassadors and Varsity Swim Team.

New was a part of 4-H and Horse and Pony Club.

In the future New hopes to find a career around the Putnam County area as an elementary school teacher and start a family.

She decided to enter the contest to make new friends and continue her 4-H career even though her ten years are over.

New describes herself as a hardworking, responsible individual who loves to spend time with family and friends. She tries to see the good in every situation and learn from her mistakes.

Her hobbies include showing and riding horses, swimming, reading and baking.

The best advice New could give a younger person is that no matter what awful, unfortunate events happen in your life something good will come out of them.

The event that had the greatest impact on her life was her mother's diagnosis of muscular dystrophy.

New admires her grandmother, Grace Moore because, New said, "She has overcome so many obstacles in her life and yet is the friendliest and strongest woman I know."
