Thursday, July 12, 2012

Alex McHugh is an 18-year-old of Coatesville. She is the daughter of Mike and Ronda and the sister to Katelyn, 16, Grady, 14, Madeline, 12 and Ava, 9.

She is a recent graduate of South Putnam High School, where she participated in basketball, volleyball, track and field, FCA, TSLA, NHS, Interact Club, 4-H and Youth Group.

McHugh plans on attending Indiana University in pursuit of a degree in Sports Marketing with a minor in Sports Psychology. She will also be on the Rowing Crew.

McHugh decided to enter the contest because growing up it's every little girl's dream to be royalty and the one week a year where they get to have their picture taken with a queen from their hometown is something that is anticipated all summer.

She believes the fair queen encompasses grace, beauty and confidence. She is someone parents can feel comfortable with their daughters admiring and she would love nothing more than to be that person.

As far as the queen McHugh believes that one has to be a positve role model and it would be an honor for her to represent the county in that manner. Plus, it is a great way to meet new friends and create lasting memories.

She would describe herself as a fun loving, positive person who is dedicated to anything that she is involved in and will give it her absolute best. She will always find the bright side of things and is always ready with words of encouragement for whoever needs it.

Her hobbies include basketball, running, reading, photography and spending time with friends and family.

The best advice she would give to a younger person is to never give up. There are so many twists and turns in life but you just have to take it and bounce back stronger. If you want to reach your dreams then don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't. Have confidence in yourself and you can do anything you set your mind to.

McHugh's event that had the greatest impact on her occurred in 2005 when she was baptized. Making that decision and being baptized as a believer in Christ has completely shaped who she is today. If it were not for that choice, she wouldn't have the drive or desire to live the lifestyle that she does.

The person McHugh admires the most is her mom. Regardless of the situation her mom maintains a positive attitude and tries to find the best in everyone. Through any rough patch she stays strong in her faith and trusts that something good will come from it. She is who McHugh aspires to be like and hopes to be the mother that she is one day.
