Fair Contestant -- Riley Seahorn

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Riley Seahorn is an 18-year-old of Greencastle. She is the daughter of Kristin and Grady and the sister of Rebecca, 21.

Seahorn is a recent graduate of Greencastle High School. Her high school activities include softball, swimming and diving, volleyball, Band, Latin Club, Pep Club, G Club, Best Buddies and Teen Court. She was also a member of the National Technical Honor Society and 4-H.

She graduated with cumulative, academic and technical honors.

Seahorn plans to attend Purdue University in the fall in hopes of obtaining a degree in Bio-medical Engineering.

She decided to enter the contest to try something new and to step outside of her comfort zone.

Seahorn would describe her self as friendly, outgoing, a hard worker, team player and one who is determined to finish anything she starts.

Her hobbies include softball, spending time with family and friends, working on 4-H projects, photography, juggling, knitting and crocheting.

The best advice she would give to a younger person is to follow your dreams. Don't give up when things get tough and always be open to change.

The event that has had the greatest impact on her, making her into the person she is today is when she was in first grade, while hanging upside down she fell and broke her arm. The damage was so severe that even after surgery the doctors thought she might lose her arm. She had no use of her right arm or hand for an entire year. Finally, after extensive therapy, sensation returned and she made a full recovery.

The person she admires the most is her grandma, Susannah Hardesty. She is a very strong lady who is there for her in good and scary times. She is always willing to go out of her way to help. She hopes that when she grows up, she can have half the strength that her grandmother does.
