Movie medleys on menu for Brazil Band Sunday night

Thursday, July 26, 2012

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Sunday Night at the Movies" on July 29, beginning at 8 p.m. rain or shine at Forest Park.

The popular movie music theme includes two medleys of cinema favorites, "Hollywood Milestones" by Higgins and "Salute To The Cinema" by Strommen.

Marches weave themselves into a host of movies and the BCB will include Hall's "The 10th Regiment" from the British movie "Brassed Off" about a mining community's brass band.

Alford's World War I march, "Colonel Bogey," ranks as one of Hollywood's most endearing themes as it is whistled by proud World War II British soldiers who are captives of the Japanese in "The Bridge Over the River Kwai."

Also from World War II, "The March From Patton" and "Tara's Theme" from "Gone With The Wind" with its Civil War setting.

The "March From 1941" by John Williams comes from the movie about life in California just days after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The late Henry Mancini's music is back by popular demand in Brubaker's "Mancini Magic" along with Williams' classics, "Star Wars Medley" and "Superman."

Disney's "Mary Poppins" arranged by Sherman and Barnes' "The Wizard of Oz" will drop in for a musical visit from Tinsel Town.
