GCSC sets budget hearing date

The Greencastle School Board will meet for a public meeting on the 2013 school budget on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

The school board agreed to the date at Wednesday's regular meeting, setting it for 7 p.m. in the administrative office board room.

Budget adoption is set for the Wednesday, Sept. 12 regular meeting.

Prior to the public hearing, the budget will be advertised twice in the Banner Graphic, on Aug. 15 and 22.

Superintendent Lori Richmond said the total budget estimate for next year is $21,398,147.

As for current finances, Richmond told the board most funds are running at around the 50 percent mark, which is a good place to be at the beginning of August.

In other business:

* The board appointed Wayne Lewis as its designee to the Greencastle Park Board.

Board members had previously served in the position, but it had been vacant since Monica Fennell resigned from the school board last spring.

* The board approved a number of personnel moves not previously discussed.

Hires: Hannah Mitchell as temporary fifth-grade teacher at Tzouanakis; Daniel Baker as Tzouanakis noon aide; Paula O'Brien as Deer Meadow cafeteria assistant; Darlena McCarty and Angela Berry as high school cafeteria assistants; Jennifer Wilson as speech aide; and Steven Davis, Catharine Tesmer, Pat Gottschalk and Margaret Huggard as substitutes.

Extra curriculars: Troy Greenlee hired as boys' basketball coach; Brad Key as girls' basketball coach; Bobby Hopper, Michael Scott and Paula O'Brien as volunteer cross country coaches at Tzouanakis; Becky Grivas as volunteer assistant girls' soccer coach; and Molly Warren as GMS special education chairperson.
