Doctors' orders prescribed for Brazil Band on Sunday

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Is There a Doctor in the House?" Sunday, Aug. 19, beginning at 8 p.m. in Forest Park at Brazil.

The free concert is staged rain or shine.

The special-edition performance recognizes members of the BCB who have earned the title of doctor through advanced degrees in medicine, jurisprudence and various educational fields.

BCB doctors include Martin Dixon, Daryl Hodges, Miranda Goodale, Bob Pell, Jim Deal, Kelley Hall, Carrie Klaus, Bob Shobe, Duane Caperton and the latest Ph.D., John Garner.

The doctors prescribed their favorite works for band, including a pair of marches by Dr. John Philip Sousa who earned two honorary Doctor of Music degrees in his lifetime, one from the Pennsylvania Military College and one from Marquette University.

Doctors' orders include: "Bugler's Holiday" by Anderson, "Trumpets Ole" by Cofield, "Liberty Bell" and "Sabre and Spurs" by Sousa, "Totem Pole" by Osterling, "Americans, We" by Fillmore, "Sea Songs" by Vaughan Williams, "Phantom of the Opera" by Webber, "Dixieland Clambake" by Warrington and "A Tribute to Glenn Miller" by Gass.
