The Care Net Pregnancy Center of Putnam County will expand its annual Walk for Life to a Day of Life on Saturday, Sept. 8.

A full day of activity is planned for the first Day of Life with the Walk for Life at 9 a.m.

The two-mile walk will begin at the shelter house between the softball field and the band shelter at Robe-Ann Park. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m.

Walkers are encouraged to have a sponosr to provide them with a tax-deductible gift for their participation. However, they are not required to collect money from their sponsors.

Any walker raising a total of $200 or more will recieve a free Walk for Life T-shirt.

For more information on the walk or to obtain a walker or sponsor brochure call 653-6605 or stop by Care Net during office hours.

Following the traditional two-mile fund-raising walk, a softball tournament will begin at 10 a.m. at Robe-Ann Park.

Six teams from area churches are invited to compete in a double-elimination tournament.

All players must be at least 18 years of age.

The double-elimination tournament will follow ASA rules and regulations.

The registration fee per team is $120 with all proceeds going toward the ministry of Care Net. All registration forms and fees are due by Aug. 31.

Bracket information and game times will be distributed to the team captains by Sept. 4.

Care Net will host a Community Night at the band shelter from 6-9 p.m., which will include a battle of the bands.

Battle of the Bands is open to solo artists as well as groups.

To enter, each artist or band must submit three songs and lyrics. Each act will be allotted a strict 30 minutes for its set from start to finish. All performances must be suitable for families.

There is a $30 registration fee for this event. However, each band or artist will have a bucket for donations during the event.

The band or artist with the most donations at the end of the event will be awarded the winner of Care Net's Battle of the Bands.

Care Net will provide a quality sound system and technician from Showtyme Sound.

Groups wishing to participate in the softball tournament or battle of the bands should contact Dave Neeley at 655-1017.
