County ballot set for Nov. election

Saturday, August 25, 2012

With the filing deadline for school board candidates passing at noon on Friday, the ballot for the Tuesday, Nov. 6 general election is set in Putnam County.

An independent seeking the District 1 County Commissioner seat and candidates for open seats on the Cloverdale, North Putnam and South Putnam school boards constitute the changes to the ballot since May's primary election.

State trooper and current North Putnam school board member Charlie Boller of Bainbridge is seeking the District 1 County Commissioner seat currently held by Gene Beck (who is running for county council). The other two candidates in the race are Democrat Jeff Blaydes and Republican David Berry.

The District 1 Commissioner must reside in one of Putnam County's northern six townships, but the position is elected by the entire county.

On the Cloverdale School Board, three Cloverdale Township positions are open, as well as the Jackson Township, Owen County, position.

In Cloverdale Township, incumbent Donna Fidler is joined on the ballot by Chris Kaufman, Christopher Mann, Tim Powell and Rob Schroer. Citizens may vote for up to three of the five candidates.

Incumbent Bobbi Nees is unopposed for her Jackson Township postion on the Cloverdale board.

Two of the four North Putnam School Board races are contested.

James Bowling and Dustin Osborn are vying to take Boller's place on the board, while in Russell Township, Darrell Wiatt will attempt to unseat current board member Jacquelyn Simpson.

Mark Hoke is unopposed in his bid for re-election to the at-large school board post. Jill Summerlot is the only candidate for the Jackson Township seat.

Three positions are up on the South Putnam board.

In Washington Township, Tim McKean and Angie Nichols are seeking the open board position. The at-large post will be decided between Anthony Heavin and Trisha Shrader.

Marion Township's Steve Cash is unopposed for his seat.

Democrat and Republican candidates for county offices were determined in May's primary. Several feature Republican candidates with no opposition.
